Research Interests

Investigating and understanding the mechanical response of polymers and fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composite materials under various strain rates and environmental conditions. Studying the electro-magneto-mechanical response of complex geometry composite multiferroic materials.

• ONR Summer Faculty Research Fellow: Center for Innovation in Ship Design at Naval Surface Warfare Center – Carderock Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center. Duties involved: mechanics-based theoretical analysis of Big Area Additive Manufacturing (BAAM) materials and structures using a multiscale approach that bridged micromechanics to structural levels. Summer 2018.
• Assistant Professor: Mechanical Engineering Department, San Diego State University. Duties involve 1) teaching mechanics and design courses; 2) advising graduate and undergraduate students; 3) directing the Experimental Mechanics Laboratory (EML). August 2015 – August 2018.
• ONR Summer Faculty Research Fellow: Center for Innovation in Ship Design at Naval Surface Warfare Center – Carderock Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center. Duties included researching the feasibility of fuel cells as the primary power source and integrating fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composite shafts and propellers in the marine environment. Summer 2016.

Duties involved: 1) teaching mechanics and design courses; 2) advising graduate and undergraduate students; 3) establishing and directing the Experimental Mechanics Laboratory (EML). • Visiting Assistant Professor: Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department, University of California, Los Angeles. Duties involved: 1) Education Director for the Center of Translational Applications of Nanoscale Multiferroic Systems; 2) co-created a course to facilitate STEM outreach. Winter 2013 – Spring 2016.
• Lecturer: Mechanical Engineering Department, California State University Northridge. Duties involved: 1) teaching undergraduate courses; 2) supervise senior design projects. Fall 2007 – Summer 2011.
• Engineering Consultant: MG&B Engineering, Inc. Founder and owner of the company. Responsible for expanding the customer base, provided root-cause corrective actions for existing technical problems, and advised on technology and process improvements. August 2008 – December 2010.
• Special Technology Engineer: PPG Aerospace (Sierracin/Sylmar). Responsible for developing new physical vapor deposition thin-film processes and automated equipment. February 2005 – July 2007.
