Research Interest

Brandon’s research focuses on the process-structure-property-performance interrelation of novel hierarchical meta-structures with auxetic and density-graded configurations to maximize their mechanical efficacy for loading scenarios under a wide range of strain rates. New advances in additive manufacturing of polymers provided unprecedented design and fabrication flexibility, enabling the realization of complex geometries with tunable mechanical behaviors. However, the current 3D printing techniques heavily rely on the available materials, limiting the scientific and technological potential. Therefore, Brandon will explore strategies to introduce hierarchy in 3D printing meta-structures to tune their performance. He will also assess their mechanical behavior under quasi-static and dynamic loading conditions.
